My work is defined by certain moments that I get to share with women. One such moment was the first time a women reached out to me for my hand and I put my hand in hers and she clenched my hand tight, balling her fingers into a fist and sought my hand for her own strength. The first time that happened the love, the warmth, the power surged through me and the mom invited me into that space to share with her and to comfort her as she worked to birth her baby. Afterwards, she sweetly thanked me for holding her hand and for being a comfort to her, for looking in her eyes and telling her she was strong and doing just right.
But it is me who appreciates her, for her hand that reached out to me, flaying until it gripped my fingers tightly, showing me how to be with women and the power of providing comfort.
